4 things to remember this International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month

From Women’s History Month to global International Women’s Day celebrations, March is a time to champion the power of women’s voices and drive positive change. As you make your plans to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, here are four ways to access inspiring content from the past and even find new voices:

1. Discover women-led storytelling.

The stories we consume shape our understanding of the world. And the stories of women — both historical and contemporary — are inspiring. This Women’s History Month, immerse yourself in women’s voices and narratives, with help from Google.

YouTube is amplifying women creators across your favorite genres from tech and art to gaming and fitness. You can see some of your favorite channels – and discover a few new voices – by visiting YouTube’s Spotlight Channel. Google TV is also curating a collection of films and shows highlighting women’s perspectives — keep an eye out for content recommendations with the tag « Her Power, Her Voice » as well as a special collection featuring Oscar-winning women.

Google Play’s Women’s History Month / International Women’s Day hub is featuring curated collections of apps, games and books, alongside editorial content highlighting stories of financial empowerment, leadership and strong female characters in gaming. And continuing on the theme of storytelling, the March 8 Google Doodle, created by artist Sophie Diao, recognizes the power of women sharing wisdom across generations, and highlights industries where women are making impact.

2. Celebrate women throughout history.

International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to explore women’s contributions throughout history. 3. Support women-owned businesses and organizations.

Women entrepreneurs and the businesses they lead are a powerful force for innovation and economic growth. You can easily discover women-owned businesses by visiting Google Maps and Search to look for the women-owned attribute. Additionally, we recently announced the first recipients of the Google for Startups Women’s Founder Fund – a group of trailblazing entrepreneurs in India, Japan and Korea who are driving innovation and finding solutions to some of the toughest problems around the world.

Check out these businesses and support those in your own community. Positive reviews and recommendations from people like you can make a huge difference.

4. Learn about allyship in your daily life.

Allyship is about putting words into action and showing support for the women in your life and community. For example, following our release of the Breaking Barriers research, which highlighted the systemic challenges girls and women face in entering fields like computer science, Google is partnering with organizations across five countries that are focused on breaking down these barriers. Our focus includes teacher training, parent engagement, and providing young students with mentors and role models.

You can seek out opportunities to connect with women on topics you’re passionate about.
